Advancing Conservation Philanthropy
Over the last decade, we have each worked in our own way on behalf of coastal conservation in Georgia. Georgia’s coast is remarkably intact, its landscapes inspiring, and scientists tell us the ecology is internationally significant. In short, the Georgia coast is a treasure and we want to do our part to preserve it for future generations.
Unfortunately, the Georgia coast has not enjoyed public awareness and recognition commensurate with its value. Likewise, the level of engagement on behalf of coastal conservation among donors and people of influence is not what it should be.
In 2013, we began a collaborative effort to widen the circle of people who are aware of the special qualities of the Georgia coast and feel motived to work on its behalf – with charitable giving, personal engagement, and influence. We began hosting special events focused on coastal conservation. From weekends on Little St. Simons Island to outings on the Savannah River to donor roundtables, we’ve brought together conservation leaders and people like you. We have been heartened and gratified by the response!
As our numbers grow, we recognize the need to stay connected. To that end, we lead an informal donor affinity group focused on coastal conservation. Known as Stewards of the Georgia Coast, our activities include periodic electronic newsletters about coastal conservation and philanthropy; the development and sharing of resources in support of conservation philanthropy; and occasions to gather and learn.
We model our effort on donor affinity groups across the country in which donors with common focus share information and resources and build community, all in the interest of making greater impact with their philanthropy.
